As most of you know, this forum had not been public for some time due to several DDoS's. We just moved around and continued our activities, of course.

Should we get any other attacks, we have contingency plans so we can continue to inconvenience spammers while they inconvenience us. We have several blog pages reserved where information can be posted if necessary:

http://inboxrevenge.blogspot.com/
Obsolete - geocities.com/inboxrevenge/
Obsolete - inboxrevenge.spaces.live.com/
http://inboxrevenge.webs.com/

http://twitter.com/inboxrevenge

Easy to remember. There's some content there, and we've staked out our turf.

Be sure your email addresses are up-to-date here, especially if you don't get notifications about new posts, so you can be contacted in case of attack. Whether and what kind of emails you would receive in that circumstance will depend on how well established you are as a member, since spammers did attempt to infiltrate our membership pretty regularly in the past, and we probably can't count on them being as ridiculously transparent all the time.

The "over-quota" message was related to heavy search engine crawling ( :D !) not a DDoS. The bug has been fixed that allowed that to be a problem. We should be fine now.

I see some people tried to reach me through live.com, which is not the best way, as I don't normally check that mailbox. Private messages through spywarehammer.com are best if this site is down.

Live.com in general is a pain, so expect the first updates to be posted in blogger and geocities. The site was already back up before I managed to get anything up in live.com spaces.

I am glad to see IBR back online. :) Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Thanks for posting the update, AC. Today has been really busy. And thanks to all who got this working again.

In addition to the blogs, now might be a good time to think about expanding the contingency plans. Especially since there are current backups.

If a mirror (or mirrors) should be devised at a different hostname/IP would admins still be able to contact members to let them know at that time where to look :?:

I was able to post a note on the blogspot and geocities sites. (I had trouble remembering one of the URLs, but Google cache came to the rescue.)

The live.com page is always a problem. It seems to be designed not only to make sure all members use IE, but also to make sure they have all the permissions set to the most permissive level for every site on the internet. It's nearly impossible to find all the domains that have to be listed as "trusted zone" to post on that blog.

Oh, I think I'll bookmark those now.

When I registered for this forum yesterday, I put inboxrevenge.com on my safe sender list, but the confirmation E-mails came from other domains and ended up in my junk folder. I marked them "not junk," but it's important to know the domain from which the confirmation E-mails will come.

I think this may be the case for you because some angry people over at SPAM-L sent inboxrevenge.com invites to Spamcop as spam reports (spamvertized domain in the body). Hopefully in a few days this will no longer happen and you will get the emails from IBR normally.

Geocities is shutting down, so we probably should take out the Geocities IBR website.

I was going to wait for the last minute. People are making noises about setting up a successor hosting service, too.

Spaces.live.com is a total pain in the tusch for posting updates, especially if I'm not at a computer that has all the various domains added to trusted on IE. (Firefox is not welcome on live.com :( ) Blogger is fine, but I want more redundancy.

We now have a twitter page which several of us may be posting on. There are already fun/informative tweets about spam, not just information on forum downtime:

http://twitter.com/inboxrevenge

Easy to remember. Bookmark these links now, so I don't hear about how nobody knew where to go when the forum was down because they couldn't view this thread. :)

There is also a newer IBR blog setup at Wordpress:
http://inboxrevenge.wordpress.com/

We may condense some of these URLs, so for now bookmark them all in case this site is not online for extended periods of time. Updates will be made as soon as they can be (worst case scenario).

I tried creating a Facebook page, but there seems to be no way to have admin posts public without people being able to become fans (and thereby reveal their identities to everyone and their friends lists to the admins). So unless you hear differently here, any FB page that says it is us is not.

For anyone arriving here: There has been a confirmed DDoS against InboxRevenge.com. The server may be up intermittently, which would account for you reading this. We will go off line as necessary rather than trying to mitigate. If the site is unavailable, please take that extra time to report some spam and spamvertised domains.

Just to remind everyone, announcements will be posted in various places. (Not necessarily in all of them at once):

http://inboxrevenge.blogspot.com/
http://twitter.com/inboxrevenge
http://inboxrevenge.wordpress.com/
http://inboxrevenge.webs.com/ (unused)
http://spamtrackers.org

also, many of our members are also members of these forums, and we have posted some updates there:
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php
http://www.cybercrimeops.com/

ADD: Update thread here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3360

The DDOS attack continued into November. We had to take strong measures to repel the attack, which reduced access to the general public.

Today the attack has subsided to the usual background noise - probes by the usual misfits trying to find weaknesses. That is normal for any public server on the Internet today.

Evidence from the attack has been assembled and placed into the grateful hands of researchers and other people who address such issues.

Access to the board has been opened to the general public. This action of course puts the board into a position where it could be attacked again in an attempt to deny our service to the Internet users. This will again result in a reduction of our wider availability during the course of the attack.

Please note down the links to the back-up information services in the previous posting. If you use Twitter, you can also see any status messages under inboxrevenge

Thanks for your patience. Remember, DDOS attacks are a sure sign that InBoxRevenge is making the sort of difference that spammers and cyber-criminals don't like. They are the ultimate accolade.
