Hi folks,

New here, pleased to meet you! Very much looking forward to learning from you all and joining in the forum.

Go my first computer 9 years ago, sure spam has got worse since then, run fire wall SuperAntiSpyware and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Recently been getting spam from an on line pharmacy using my email address. How can I stop this? How did they get my email address and manage to use it?

Very grateful for any help to stop this! :?

Do you mean, how did they get your email address in the first place? Or are you talking about them using your email address in the "from" field?

In the latter case, they just send all emails with the same email address in the "from" and the "to" fields. It doesn't actually come from your email account. They forge the information.

As far as getting email addresses, it's an industry in itself, and they resort to a lot of illegal activity. Even if you've been careful, the whole point of having an email address is so people can use it. One of your contacts could have had an infected computer, or they may not have used bcc when they sent a mailing to someone else whose computer was infected. Anything you've ever posted online, ever, will be harvested by bots (also illegal) and sold to companies that don't ask questions, who then sell it to progressively less disreputable companies. Once the address has been released into the wild, you'll never stop the spam. You can only use the information the spammers are dropping into your lap to make their lives difficult  .

Welcome to InBoxRevenge, Pim.

Some people believe that the spammers who promote online pharmacy scams will go out of business when the syndicates running the scams are shut down. That sounds reasonable to me. As you explore this website, you may find the discussions about the various pharmacy "brands" to be especially interesting.

Thank you NotBuyingit!

Delighted to have found this website, looking forward to participating and getting to know folks! Been pondering  why so much spam involving sale of Viagra and Calis? Can't believe there is a great demand for this sort of med. - or is it my age, was thinking they must send spam for the hell of it most times? More likely to fall for spam offering samples of tea! :? Usually delete spam without looking.

Kind regards Pim.

Most of that pharma spam is aimed at US residents. Our health system is pretty messed up. So you have the perfect storm of people who can't afford to go to the doctor, people who don't want to ask the doctor for erectile dysfunction drugs or don't want to fill the script at the local pharmacy, and people who can't afford prescriptions for drugs that are still under patent. (Viagra is $15-20 per pill in the US currently.)

Spammers get a miniscule return on their mailings, but they send out millions of emails and it costs them very little. Many of their costs are paid with stolen credit cards, so it's all profit.
