Wired threat level has good coverage as well:

This is great news. :silthumb: It's much more than solely the FBI involved in these raids.

Quote:
Authorities in several countries have reportedly busted up parts of a $74 million scareware ring after conducting a series of mulinational raids.

The raids, in Latvia, Britain, the United States and several other countries, focused on seizing servers and bank accounts that members of two gangs allegedly used to rake in about $74 million by tricking computer users into buying fake anti-virus programs and services, according to the BBC.

The Ukraine is putting together a new bill to allow for imprisonment for convictions relating to cybercrime. The current maximum stretch is 6 years. As a result of the $72 Million scam, they want to up it to 15 years.

This is quite the year for Russia and Ukraine actually paying the slightest bit of attention to the rampant online criminality within their borders. We still haven't seen any actual convictions or jail time yet but it's certainly encouraging.

I'll believe it when I see it (I never take these claims seriously because nobody's been sent to jail for anything in Russia or Ukraine yet) but it certainly sounds good.
