Brian Krebs just posted a great story covering the recent raid on Chronopay and the effect that raid is having on many scummy operations, most of which are related directly to Chronopay:

http://krebsonsecurity.com/2011/08/fake ... um+Posting

Quote:
On July 2, BestAV, one of the larger fake AV distribution networks, told affiliates that unforeseen circumstances had conspired to ruin the moneymaking program for everyone.

“Dear advertisers: Last week was quite complicated. Well-known force majeure circumstances have led to significant sums of money hanging in the banks, or in processing, making it impossible to pay advertisers on time and in full.”

The disruption appears to be partially due to an international law enforcement push against the fake AV industry. In one recent operation, authorities seized computers and servers in the United States and seven other countries in an ongoing investigation of a hacking gang that stole $72 million by tricking people into buying fake AV.

There may be another reason for the disruption: On June 23, Russian police arrested Pavel Vrublevsky, the co-founder of Russian online payment giant ChronoPay and a major player in the fake AV market.

The whole thing is worth a read.

This is quite the year! (And I said that about the same time last year.)

This is possibly related to the downturn in the fortunes of Chronopay

You may remember that this was something that was crucial to Russian governmental officials when they visited with PayPal last year in an attempt to bring more companies into Russia, but PayPal actually specifically brought up the rampant online criminal activity being executed by primarily Russian citizens and organizations.

I wonder what changed to suddenly get this deal made?

Good find.

The trial date has not been set yet. And no of course it doesnt get me off the hook. But it definetely makes life better from all points of view. :-) I dont hear Allah Akbar every 3 hours right into my left ear (made it easier to sleep though, very melodic), I eat meat (damn I missed meat for half a year), I get used back to darkness at night and other common things people just dont notice, I shower daily for instance. You know.
Civilazation. :-) Cell phones and I dont even want to mention it, the internet. I just love pushing buttons here. :-))

Lefortovo prison - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lefortovo_Prison
is Russia's most strict prison for political criminals, spies, elite hitmen, top drug mafia and top mobsters, and of course beloved terrorists, in other words an excellent company to have Your morning breakfast with. :-)

Obviously a lot of terrorists and drug mafia originate from Muslim countries, near Russia, and are quite obsessed in their faith.
