This is hilarious:
http://www.popehat.com/2012/07/09/my-wh ... ck-you-in/

Excerpt:
Code:
    Dear Marshall, Joshua:

It has come to our attention that a number of links exist on your domain which send traffic to our website realinsurance.com.au. As a result of warnings in Google Webmaster Tools we have determined that these links may be harmful either to the future marketing and reputation of realinsurance.com.au or our search results.

Accordingly, we request that you (A) remove all existing links to realinsurance.com.au from your domain, including, but not limited to the following URLs:

    http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/12/senators-consider-a-menu-of-options-including-medicare-expansion-as-public-option-alternative.php

    (B) Cease creation of any additional links to realinsurance.com.au

    (C) provide us with prompt notification once links to realinsurance.com.au have been removed either by return email, or using the link below. …

It seems that some sites that have employed forum spammers to leave their detritus all over other people's forums are finding it is now coming back to bite them in the butt. Google's new algorithm for identifying black hat SEO that manipulated ranking by putting links in spam posts is so effective that they are seeing their sites' Google rankings plummet. But being the narcissistic d-nozzles that they are, rather than accept their karmic fate, they want the victims of their spamming to take up their own time deleting the spammy posts. And rather than ask nicely, they're making legal threats, as if there is any law allowing them to make such a demand. Oh, yeah, and they want the victim to send them a full report once it's finished.

Needless to say, Ken at the Popehat blog gives them an appropriate smackdown.

I suppose that the Australian site owner could pay the original forum spammer to log back into TPM and delete the offending backlinks.

Most of those blogs don't allow people to edit their old comments. The site owner would have to remove them.

If anyone asked me to do that busywork for them, I would expect to be paid for my labor.
