Finally I have an opportunity to write to you, I regret that I did not do it long. Unfortunately I had no opportunity. We had acquaintance to you, but could not continue it, I would like to continue it now, if you not against? I cannot tell at all as a lot of time back it was... If you have not forgotten me, write on my personal e-mail: [email protected] I tried to send my picture to you, but I do not know, if you could receive it. You can send your pictures to me also? I shall be glad to see it :) I wish to continue our acquaintance. I shall be glad to see your letter as soon as possible, yours Elena.

Who is aimed for bilingual Germans who want a date? I can't imagine anyone responding to this.

Subject: Sprechen-Vous Italiano?

grant and i listened and danced to his music on valentines day
ten months after we were married i was a stay at home mom living the student life again while grant went back to school a few months later another unplanned event- my mom passed away suddenly
guess what i finally put in the shop
i spent a few hours organizing my yarn and needles into that armoire
i will i will i will please hold me accountable if you dont see the results posted next week the inspiration pieces
Taking the valentines happy girl
confession i miss saved by the bell
but let me tell you thats not how it will really go i imagine most kids will want to stay home and play computer games but their moms will make them come and so theyll grudgingly put on a some church pants and skirts so i was wondering if you could help me know how to bring the romance back into our modern life its not really that important no matter the dress or the menu we just want the kids to come to feel the spirit of the temple but its like you said anne when you dont use your imagination to make life beautiful how much you miss
i spent a few years calming down my teen angst and attempting to grow up i loved san luis obispo i was ready to chill there for good
a little note for my valentine
we lived on a corner in a typical oc tract neighborhood
ready to share the love
the deal with pcos and carbs
im just obsessed with him
what a few hours on a sunny day can do for you
a conversation today
all kits are shipped phew
but the pattern is still available
i had a really tumultuous teenager-hood i was a happy and smart little kid it was surprising when so much angst welled up inside me
they make me happy

PLEASE SVAR KUN TIL MIN PERSONA E-MAIL: [email protected]

Paa forhaand tak!
Mit navn er Ekaterina.

Well, Ekaterina, you may be able to speak some Norwegian, but what makes you think I can do that? This was sent to my Finnish (.fi) email address, and I got two of these.

I understand Russians may be confused about what languages are spoken in distinct Northern European countries, and it's true we have a Swedish (!) speaking minority here in Finland, but I think this is still just plain stupid...

I can't tell how accurate the language is, but it seems to be a dating scam.

You mean there's a difference? I thought all you Swedes spoke Scandinavian!

Seriously, to the US, "up there" (Scandinavia) is sort of a mystery. Were it not for my travels to Denmark I would have no clue about the different languages, i.e. Danish, Swedish, Icelandic, Finnish etc. and how different they really are. I mean, we are taught "Copenhagen", not "Kobenhavn". I think the spammers should get bonus points for trying to hit an appropriate language...

There's really a domain "fart.jino.ru?" And it's a dating site? (was, maybe -- it's a 404 page now).
Fart must mean something very different in Russian.

Well, from our point of view, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Icelandic are more or less similar. After all they are all related to each other -- and English! -- but not to Finnish. That means, hypothetically speaking, that you should understand that Norwegian text even better than me :).

Ok, you mean I would get bonus points by spamming you using Yupik as the language? That's spoken in the U.S., so you simply have to speak it, too. ;)

I guess it doesn't have to be a website at all, it could just be "her" mail server there, as "she" seems to be waiting for email after all. I don't know what this whole thing is all about, and I don't think I really care either. They are idiots all the same... :)

"Fart" in Danish means "speed"...really! Or at least Google Translate says it does. It detected the text as Danish.

I can vouch for it being a very popular word in Denmark, I saw it everywhere. In fact I think I got on a bus or a train that was called the "iFart".

Danish looks strange, but if you actually try reading it out loud it starts sounding like English in places. (Except the part about the iFart. I'd be laughing too hard to keep reading after that. I'd probably be wishing I'd worn an iPad ;)) The first time I saw Finnish, the first question I had was what language group it is (it's not Indo-European), because it looked completely unfamiliar to me.

Oh, you seem to be right, it's Danish indeed. There you see how difficult it is for an average Finn to distinguish between Scandinavian languages (except Swedish perhaps). You can even feed that text to Google using both Danish and Norwegian as the source, and get a more or less accurate translation :).

They are much easier to distinguish when you hear them spoken, as Danish is like speaking Swedish with a hot potato in your mouth (or that's what Swedes say anyway)...

Yes, you probably found the answer that Finnish belongs to the Finno-Ugric language group of the Uralic language family. Most of the European languages are Indo-European, and this family is one of the few exceptions. Hungarian, Estonian and Finnish are the most spoken ones, and then there are many smaller languages of this family spoken in different parts of Russia (and of course Sami in the northern Scandinavia).

That makes Finnish a good "code language" you can speak amongst Indo-Europeans and be sure the others cannot understand you if they haven't specifically studied the language :). On the other hand it makes learning other languages a little bit harder, and that's why you may notice e.g. me making mistakes here that a Swede or a German wouldn't have done. A Finno-Ugric has to think quite differently when speaking an Indo-European language.

And of course I think Finnish is the most beautiful language in the world. :D

It does sound very pretty when you hear it. But you aren't going to convince many people of the difference between Finno-Ugric and Indo-European based on the errors you and the other Finns make here. The native English speakers certainly match the few mistakes you make, just from careless typing. :)

Thanks for your kind words.

Maybe I can concretize the difference by writing the previous sentence in Finnish:

Kiitos ystävällisistä sanoistasi.

:D
