I get a couple of these a week - different domains same setup. No data (fake) that I enter seems to be taken up and it's not cookie t.p or browser based as far as I can see. Are they really dumb (it's broken) really smart (they know it's me) or is it looking for IE exploits, the page doesn't seem to process the data, it just says 'We are sorry but we cannot continue with your request.' ?

Without seeing a sample, it's hard to say....if it's not accepting any data, then yea, wouldn't doubt it if it's exploit or activeX related....view the source and see if it leads to anything? :)

HSBC phishing spoofs are pretty common, you could be talking about a run-of-the- mill stupid phisher, or one that is simply ridden with malware as you suggest looking for IE exploits.
