Very busy Webhosting forum attacked! - I just got word of this. I was a very irregular contributor to WHT (WebhostingTalk) - their backups were destroyed as well, talk about viciousness.

Wow!

I had never really followed that forum but that thread made me a member. :)

I wonder what pissed their attacker off so much.

Yea, the backup suggestions are very interesting. I try to read a few Slashdot headlines each day, but you all find the ones I overlook  so thanks for posting them anyway.

It looks like WHT got their backups through October 2008, but they are still struggling to get anything more recent than that, so at least they did have a lot of their data backed up. I googled attack and WHT and apparently they had a nasty attack back in 2005, one might think that they would have had stronger backup precautions in place.

The only motivation I can think of is that some running a wehbosting company got slammed with bad reviews on WHT, hence the attack. I cannot think of any other clear motivation.

Sometimes in my research of webhosting companies leads me to WHT, so I am glad they recovered from this.
