To protest SOPA, Wallstreet, our irresponsible leaders and the beloved
bankers who are starving the world for their own selfish needs out of
sheer sadistic fun, On March 31, anonymous will shut the Internet down.

In order to shut the Internet down, one thing is to be done. Down the
13 root DNS servers of the Internet.

We have compiled a Reflective DNS Amplification DDoS tool to be used for
this attack.

By definition, anyone can say they're representing Anonymous, and no one is ever really representing all of them. I'm sure there are some of them who are juvenile and just want to show they have the power to do something damaging. But to protest a law that no longer has support? That sounds like a troll that isn't really reading the news every day.

A ramp attack on the root servers is technically feasible. Signalling the intent weeks in advance of the event could serve 3 purposes
1. ensuring a large number of attackers at the nominated date so as to maximize damage
2. creating fear in the general populace thus raising the groups' profile in the media
3. threatening an attack to cause time wasting and workload concerns for those charged with protecting the root servers, even if no attack occurs

What is certain, if any significant interruption was caused, no amount of concealment (Tor proxies, VPNs ..) would protect the anonymity of the perpetrators from the long cyber arm of the authorities. However, the likelihood of success is low, given their mistaken belief that there are only 13 targets

Anonymous is a protest group lost in a search for a worthy cause.

They sure seem intent on shooting themselves in the foot.

to shut down any elitist group which has one solitary objective.
