Facebook unmasks hacker selling accounts
http://news.techworld.com/security/3223 ... -accounts/You may remember a few weeks back it was announced that an unknown Russian hacker was claiming to have "millions" of facebook accounts for sale.
Facebook managed to figure out who he was, and managed to also prevent the compromised accounts from being of any use to the hacker.
Quote:
Facebook has identified the hacker named Kirllos who tried to sell 1.5 million Facebook accounts recently in underground hacking forums. According to the investigators at the social networking site, he's guilty of both hacking and hyperbole.
Kirllos was first spotted by researchers at VeriSign's iDefense group a few weeks back after he claimed to have an unusually large number of Facebook accounts for sale at rock-bottom prices. According to VeriSign, Kirllos wanted between $25 and $45 per 1,000 accounts, depending on the quality of the Facebook user's connections.
Facebook has a really good tech team in place. Good to see they can turn this kind of investigation around so quickly.
The best part: "Kirllos" was more than likely lying about how many accounts he actually had for sale.
